Tower Houses in the Mani

The Mani is a peninsula in the southern Peloponnese, Greece. It has always been a rugged and isolated region. Even the Ottoman empire never managed to subdue it. The rather lawless culture gave rise to a tradition of feuding between families and so houses became defensive structures as a result. There are few windows and those near the ground are small.
