Staithes From Above

Description

Staithes From Above

Staithes is a small former fishing village on the North Yorksire coast, in north-eastern England. It is now mainly a tourist attraction, being nestled in a deep, narrow river valley with high cliffs on either side. This picture shows the old town and Roxby Beck, the small river that has carved out the gorge. The tide was out so the little boats were rather stranded. Be aware that motor access to Staithes is very limited and you will have a steep walk down from (and back up to!) the car park and bus stop at the top.

The village was once home to a group of artists. Now the nearby potash mine hosts some research into "dark matter".
