Selby Abbey, Yorkshire

Selby Abbey is a very large church in the relatively small town of Selby, Yorkshire, England.  It is about twelve miles south of York.  The church was originally part of a monastery, founded in 1069.  Like many such institutions, it became very rich during the middle ages but that came to an end with the Reformation and the dissolution of the monasteries.  After a period of neglect it became the parish church for the town.
