Sunrise in the Pindos Mountains, North West Greece, near the Albanian border. This is the valley of the River Aoos, near Konitsa, in spring 1996.

Scanned from 35mm negative film. This version was re-processed in March 2012 to produce a larger and less grainy image. The old version has been moved to my Scraps page [link] .

Constructive criticism welcome.

This is the River Aoos, near Konitsa in north-west Greece. It is near a monastery that was destroyed by the Germans in one of the many atrocities of World War Two.

If you are used to seeing Athens or the Greek islands you will find this area near the Albanian border a complete change. Very wild and green.

You will have seen from my original description that I was not really happy with how this scan came out, yet it has turned out to be one of my most popular images. I still haven't tried to do a better scan ...
