Leeds Market from the Balcony
Leeds Kirkgate market is one of the largest under-cover markets in Europe with about 800 stalls. It is in Yorkshire, England. This picture shows part of the old (1904) building at the top of the market, viewed from the balcony. This is a view that most visitors do not see. There is a much larger, newer part of the market to the left of this picture. The new building replaced one that was destroyed in a great fire in 1975.
Among its claims to fame, the market was where the first stall was opened by Marks & Spencer who went on to grow into a major clothing and food retail chain.
