Grey's Monument, Newcastle 2012
This is the monument to Charles, Earl Grey. He was a major advocate of democratic reform and religious freedom in Britain for many decades from 1790 onwards. The monument stands at the top of Grey Street in Newcastle and is a prominent landmark. The pedestrianised area around it is larger than this picture suggests.
There is a spiral stairway inside the column and occasionally the public are allowed up to the viewing gallery at the top,
